Sunscreen for Kids: Nivea Sun Kids Moisturising Spray SPF 50+

I have been looking for a good sunscreen for my kids. Unfortunately, there's not much choice in drugstores and department stores in our area.

We're two days away from a scheduled family day out in Island Cove so I grabbed a bottle that would be good for the whole family.

What I looked for

I wanted a sunscreen that is mild, water-resistant, non-greasy and protects against UVA and UVB rays. I didn't want the sunscreen to cause breakouts on my daughters' faces (aged 10 and 12) so a good product for sensitive skin is a must.

I was hoping to buy new products from Coppertone like Water Babies Pure and Simple Lotion or Water Babies Foaming Lotion but these were not available. Another good option, the Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion was also not available.

I considered Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock Lotion SPF 50 because a number of reviews recommend the product even for kids' faces. I also found kids products such as Banana Boat Kids, Hawaiian Tropic Kids, Nivea Kids in lotion and spray, and Coppertone Kids Sunblock Lotion .

They are all water-resistant, gentle for sensitive skin and offer broad spectrum protection.

Ingredients I avoided

I don't want sunscreens containing oxybenzone because there were studies that link the ingredient to hormone disruption. Retinyl palmitate was also a no,no as there were studies that show it could cause tumors. Final rulings on these have yet to be issued but as a mother, I don't want to expose my kids to these potentially harmful chemicals.

I ended up buying the Nivea Sun Kids Moisturising Sun Spray SPF 50+ because it does not contain oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate. The label says it has EU-compliant UVA and UVB protection system, is good for children's delicate skin and very water resistant.

I tested the product on my arm as soon as I got home. The lotion is pastel-colored, which my 8-year old son liked.

The downside is it felt greasy. I was hoping that the oily, greasy texture would disappear after a few minutes but my arm still felt greasy hours after application.

Nivea Sun Kids Moisturising Spray SPF 50+ five minutes after application...

... and after an hour
I hope this wouldn't be such a big issue with my kids when we go for a swim this weekend.

Verdict
Kids found the colored lotion spray appealing but I wouldn't recommend it because it is TOO greasy.

Living on a budget: Pocket-friendly antibacterial liquid hand soap

Got some interesting finds from local supermarkets lately - a variety of affordable, gentle and sweet-smelling antibacterial liquid hand soaps. You may find them moisturizing as well.

Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soaps

I have tried SM Bonus Anti-bacterial Liquid Soap in Berries, Magnolia and Lavender. Not as concentrate as other store brand soaps available locally but still offers good value for money. I got the 500 ml. bottle for around Php 65 each.

SureBuy Watermelon Anti-bacterial Hand Soap and PanRosa Apple Scented Hand Soap have nice fruity scent. They make regular hand washing fun for kids.

My favorite is Lander Cotton Blossom Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap. It is a new formula which kills 99.99% of bacteria and germs, is moisturizing and leaves hands with a nice blossom scent .

Hair Care: Aromatherapy deep repairing treatment

Another product that promises to restore hair's lost beauty and shine now comes with Rose Hip Oil from France.

The new Aromatheraphy Deep Penetrating Treatment from Watsons is for intensive treatment to help reinforce hair strength and restore lost shine while deeply nourishing hair.

Aromatherapy Deep Repairing Treatment with Rose Hip Oil

It contains Pro Vitamin B5, Vitamin E and Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein that penetrate into each hair strand to help replenish nutrients and repair damage from root to tip.

The product also promises to enhance hair elasticity, shine and smoothness and to leave hair with a fragrant rose scent.

This beauty product is also budget friendly.

Will it be effective for frizzy hair? We'll soon find out...!

Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks

Cocoa butter has been known to help minimize the appearance of stretch marks.

So I recently bought Deep Moisturizing Body Lotion Cocoa Butter from Watsons to see if there's some grain of truth to this claim.

The scent is more appealing than the one I previously used, comes in a more attractive packaging and budget friendly, too!

Deep Moisturizing Body Lotion Cocoa Butter

The package claims that the body lotion is moisture-infused and deeply penetrates skin to smooth away roughness and dullness, leaving skin soft, smooth and glowing from within.

I wonder if it can really deliver on the promise.

Please share if you've tried this product before and if it really works. Any other effective pocket-friendly products you know for stretch marks? I'd love to hear about them...

Powdered milk candies, anyone?

I recently came across an interesting box of desserts containing 20 pieces of assorted powdered milk candies from House of Polvoron.

House of Polvoron Assorted Powdered Milk Candies

The candies come in four flavors - Crisped Rice, Cashew, Pili and Cookies n' Cream.

This is a favorite among kids and offers quick sugar fix even for adults' cravings.

Locally known as "polvoron", powdered milk candy is a scrumptious dessert made with powdered milk, toasted flour, sugar and melted butter. Crisped rice and special nuts may be added to this special blend for flavor.

Each serving (3 pieces) contains 7% calcium, 2% thiamine, 10% riboflavin, less than 2% niacin, 9% total fat (no transfat), 2% cholesterol, 2% sodium and 8% total carbohydrates.
